Biography
The beginning
Linda Engström was born on May 20tieth, year 1978 in Västerås,
Sweden. She grew up in the small industrial town of Fagersta with
her mother, father and elder sister. Already in preschool Linda
had her future mapped out, well aware of what she wanted to be
when growing up, there was never any doubt in her mind, her greatest
desire in life was to become a singer and songwriter. Not once
did she waver or drift away from her mission to accomplish the
dream she had sown as a little girl. Thus Linda spent the rest
of her years in elementary school singing, learning to play a
few musical instruments and of course performing whenever the
chance arose.
When Linda turned 16 she moved to Avesta, another small town
in Sweden, to indulge herself in music studies, in the dominating
art school in town. A move she wouldn’t regret. Up until
this point she had very little knowledge, if any at all, of the
structure of music, which she now thankfully encountered on a
regular basis. It was during these years of her blooming youth
that Linda started to write lyrics and compose music of her own. |

Years on the road
The year after her graduation she sold most of her belongings, got
rid of her apartment and ventured out to travel with a childhood
friend. Both inexperienced backpackers ended up in New Zeeland and
Indonesia where they deliberately got stuck for almost five months.
Linda’s purpose for her travels was not only to see the world
and meet new people, but it was also meant to be an inner journey.
A journey which would possibly shed some light on Linda’s
search for her own truth. Weather or not she managed this goal of
hers, you can find out by carefully listening to the song “Autobiography
of an unknown singer” on the album with the same title. |

Back home
Linda returned to Sweden in 1999, that’s when her song writing
really kicked off. Whilst waiting tables at the local pubs and
scrubbing floors her creativity was running wild, she wrote song
after song. Linda intended to head out on the road again as soon
as she had earned enough cash for a ticket, but found herself
in a minor dilemma. As much as she longed for seeing new countries,
she couldn’t figure out how she would keep her song writing
alive on the road, since she was always using a piano to compose
music. This encouraged Linda to learn how to get along with a
guitar; she started off with a few chords and bought herself a
little blue guitar as soon as she had left the cold winds of Sweden
behind once again.

The turning point
At the end of year 2000 she was back in Sweden, only to find herself
hotfooting it back to Malaysia six months later. This time Linda
stayed for a whole year, a year that would consequently change
her life forever. A series of life altering events took place,
one of which the most important, was the fact that she found herself
pregnant; this dramatically changed her view of the world. She
went back to Sweden five months pregnant and gave birth to a baby
boy in the summer of 2002.
Because of this sudden turning point in Linda’s life, she
put the music aside for a few years. It wasn’t until the
year of 2004 that she started to record a demo (her second) with
her good friend from music school, Nicklas Hovberg. This brought
back the urge to make music once again, this time her songs were
characterized by a deeper level of growth and maturity. |
The debut album
In the year of 2006 she started to record, it was only intended
to be another demo, but it ended up as her debut album containing
thirteen songs. The same year Linda was signed by an independent
record label, Ready for more records. The record company is releasing
her debut album called “Autobiography of an unknown singer”
which pretty much chronicles Linda’s life up until now.
Here & Now
At present Linda is writing more music than ever and she is preparing
to do more gigs. She’s got enough songs to fill at least
2-3 new albums in her collection. The singer/songwriter has currently
turned 29 and finds day-to-day life, in all its triviality her
main source of inspiration. Her driving force is nothing but a
burning desire to share her music with the world.
